Peet Coetzee was born in Krugersdorp, Transvaal in 1946. From November 1967 to May 1968 he did Dog Instructor’s Course No H28 at the SA Defence Force Dog School in Voortrekkerhoogte, Pretoria. During the first year at the Dog School he served as an Air Force member, with the rank of Air Corporal, and was later promoted to Air Sergeant. In 1968 the Dog School was officially changed from being a Defence Force unit into an Infantry unit.
CORPORAL K-9 was conceived as a spin-off from my first book – SPECIAL FORCES JAM STEALER. Having had the time available, I started writing this book. As mentioned in SPECIAL FORCES JAM STEALER it seemed important to stress the fact that I was once upon a time a soldier, and a far cry from being a writer. I had walked the walk and that qualified me to talk the talk regarding this topic. This book contains cherished memories of my colleagues who served with me at the Dog School. This would most certainly also include the many course members whom I instructed during those years (1968 – 1973). I always tried honestly to provide them with something of value anhope that fine old memories will come to mind when reading this book. This book is in retrospect of, and only covers the seven years 1967 – 1974 I served there as an instructor.
